Being the fourth revolution and a new paradigm in manufacturing industries, smart manufacturing is the collection of cutting-edge technologies that support effective and accurate engineering decision making in real time through the introduction of various information and communication technologies (ICT) and the convergence with the existing manufacturing technologies. A cyber-physical production system (CPPS) is a smart manufacturing enterprise consisting of autonomous and collaborating modules interconnected in such way that, depending on the setting, cover all the stages of the production process in the supply chain network. One of the foundations of CPPS is the concept of digital twin. The digital twin is seen as one of the enablers in the smart manufacturing which involves fusing data from both physical and virtual spaces. The application of digital twin has recently seen prominence in production planning and scheduling areas such as assembly process, production life-cycle management, and order management. 10:30-10:50Keynote Speech: Repair, Retrofit and Remanufacturing Using a Directed Energy Deposition Process

Recently, interest in the repair, the retrofit and remanufacturing (3R) of mechanical parts has greatly increased to overcome global warming and resource depletion. Metal additive manufacturing (MAM) processes can be easily applied to 3R of mechanical parts due to layer-by-layer deposition characteristics. Directed energy deposition (DED) processes, including laser engineered net shaping (LENS), direct metal deposition (DMD), laser metal deposition (LMD) processes, etc., can create metallic three-dimensional shapes on even and uneven substrates. The goal of this presentation is to investigate methodologies of repair, retrofit and remanufacturing of mechanical parts using a DED process. Key technologies for the 3R, including a failure pattern analysis of the damaged part, the design of the substrate and the deposited region, the design of the deposition strategy, the post-processing of the deposited part, and the evaluation of the 3R parts, are discussed. Finally, the applicability of the 3R of mechanical parts using the DED process is examined through the case studies for dies and machine tool parts.

A major goal of neuroscience research is to understand the molecular, cellular, and activity-based mechanisms that control the formation and maintenance of neural circuits. Over the past four decades, key molecules and mechanisms that underlie synapse development, activity, and stability have been identified. Meanwhile, the single-cell profiling technique enables the identification of new classes of neurons and optogenetics has confirmed a causal relationship between neural circuits and behaviors.
In addition, new optical methods can visualize neurons in living animals, and techniques in deriving human neurons and brain organoids from induced pluripotent stem cells enable gene-to-function investigation, which is necessary to identify mechanisms and cures for neurodevelopmental and psychiatric disorders and neurodegenerative diseases. In this symposium, we will bring together leaders working on neuronal development, synapse development and plasticity, circuit structure and function, and the study of brain disease.

Today, every country in the world is experiencing growth in the aged population. The number of people aged 80 years or older is expected to triple between 2020 and 2050 to reach 426 million. Accordingly, issues with healthy aging or anti-aging have become key topics for future medical and pharmaceutical development, and factors influencing healthy aging have led researchers to discover biomarkers causing aging related diseases.
